Philips and the Monkeypen( 🐵✒)

It's an amazing fictional movie revolving around the children's world and talking about their issues. An 2013 released movie, I think it's one of the best children movie in Malayalam since it got Kerala State Film Award for Best Childrens Film and Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist (Sanoop santhosh).

Storyline: -

Ryan Philip is an 10 year old boy who is struggling with maths. He is born to parents of different religion and this makes some of his classmates to laugh at him. Since he is weak in maths and never do maths homework, he is regarded as a weak student. The reason behind his fear for math is when he urinate in first standard for not doing a problem in classboard . He got frightened by his math miss whom he compared to a 'dinosaur '🦖!! In this way, he got a nickname 'kanakilumulli". He got tortured in class by his maths sir for not doing homework and for securing low mark in maths. This makes him ended up his maths sir in police custody . He shares his problems to his innerself that is portraided as God. There is a scene when he is asking " there is no superhero to do math homework"🤪.

Anyway things got changed when got a magic pen aka Monkeypen from his grandfather's house who got a good antique collection. With a mysterious story behind the monkeypen, Ryan believed that this pen do his maths homework(actually his father does his homework). This changes his image in the school and slowly he become a good student in all means. He began to give tips in school radio and become the leader for interschool maths exhibition . Meanwhile,his crush in the school Joan met with an accident and dies;he got depressed. By the suggestion of monkeypen, Ryan talk to his mom which makes him better. Eventhough,exhibition was a success,they doesn't win the title. This depresses Ryan and confess to math sir that he did the prank. He forgives him and ask to cheer up. He bring up the issue of overly packed schoolbuses are the reason for the accident by pasting posters in the school, thereby school took strict measures against that.

After all this,he talked to his father who is astonished by the good comments from teachers in the school. He advised him 'for attaining success there is no shortcuts',work hard and always to tell truth'. Ryan decided not to rely on monkeypen but decided to work hard . It was his father who does all the things whom Ryan thinks that monkeypen had did. It was his plot to change his son!!

Educational Implications: -

1. Shows the healthy relationship between parent-children, 👨‍👩‍👧children-children👬,teachers- parents 👨‍🏫👫, grandparents-children👨‍🦯🧍‍♂️.

2. Show the real problems of kids through their perspective. In the movie ,Ryan is asking' why I am born as a human? Can I be a Ryan butterfly'!?

3. To change teachers attitude towards students who are weak in their respective subjects. Can make use of other ideas rather than beating or harassing them in the class as it will only help the student to hate that subject.

4. Avoid comparing the children with other students as each one is unique and needs are different.

5. Idea of a school radio through which students can share their ideas and tips. In the movie, we can see Ryan giving tips like: wishing your teachers properly, greeting them on their birthday , cleaning your classroom and lunchbox, sharing food etc.

5. A healthy atmosphere in school so that each student should feel school like a second home🏠. It plays an important role in the development of the child.

6. Use psychological methods to teaching.

7. Correlating different subjects and examples from daily life. In the movie ,children take the topic "mathematics in everyday life" for the exhibition through which they got deep understanding in the subject.

8. Motivate the children to learn, as child development is a continuous process.

9. Adapting learning process,procedures and practices according to level of each child.

10. Undue pressure should not be put on the students.
